What is Nischint for Education and how does it work?

A:
The Nischint for Education is a Mobile Device Management solution, provided by Nischint Technologies for use in the Education Sector. It securely catalyses the use of mobile devices in school, ensuring only education related content during class hours. After class hours the mobile device can be used like any other device. The Nischint for Education app is available to download from Google Playstore and Apple App store for free.

How do I proceed with the initial configuration of the system?

A:
Prior to configuration of the system, ensure that you have received the following • Your dedicated device admin portal . Usually the nomenclature used by us https://(schoolname).nischint.co • Your login credentials- email id and password • Requisite number of licenses. If you do not have any of these please contact your Nischint representative alternatively write to info@nischint.co a. Log onto your school IT admin Portal through the URL provided by entering your IT Admin Login Credentials. b. We recommend you to change your password initially for security concerns. i. Go to ‘Settings’ >> Click on ‘Account Settings’ sub tab ii. Click ‘Change Password’ iii. Enter your old password >> Enter New Password >> Confirm new password by reentering it. iv. Click ‘Save’ Button. c. Go to Settings >>Click on ’Grade/YL Settings’ >> Create the Respective Grades and Sections as per the School. d. Go to Time Management tab>>Click on ‘Set School Hours’ >> Select the respective grades, working days and working hours in order to set up the school times during when the device needs to be under School Control. e. Now the basic Configurations are set Go to the Student Management tab. Here you can see the set of License codes assigned for your respective School’s use. Please note that only one license code can be used for per student device.

Q:
How do install Nischint on student device and link to the system?

A:
Installing on student device can be done the following ways i. Parent self-service mode – Asking students/parents to install Nischint for education application at home ii. IT mode – installing the application on every student device in school For the Parent self-service mode, please follow the below steps a. Mail merge all the licenses provided and send to all the parents. Please send a PDF instruction booklet. If you need assistance with the same please contact your Nischint representative or write to info@nischint.co b. Download and install ‘Nischint for Education’ app for free from Google Playstore. c. Open the Nischint for Education app in the student device. d. Click on Student Device Activation. e. Enter the License code from your set of Licenses in order to assign it to a particular device. f. Enter the Student Registration Number And other student details such as Name, Grade Section. g. Select the Device type Personal Device/School Device. In case of personal device, parent credentials of email ID and mobile number will be required. In case of school device, no further credentials are required. h. The Device is now conImaged with Nischint for Education and linked to the IT web portal For the IT mode, please follow the above steps by replacing the parent part with the IT Staff.

4. When there is an update for Nischint for Education app, does the data get lost?

A:
The entire system of Nischint For Education including the IT admin web portal and end user student device management is cloud based, hence no data is lost, and can be accessed even after updating the Nischint for Education app.

5. Does Nischint for Education app work even if I don’t update to the latest version?

A:
The Nischint For Education app works with complete functionality of its features available in the current version installed on the device. However, the user may not be able to use any new features that are released with the latest version of the Nischint For Education app.

Currently all settings and management for IT Administrators need to be managed via the web portal. We are working on a mobile app for them as well.

Does the Nischint for Education application support rooted/jailbroken devices?

A:
Nischint does not guarantee the functioning of any of its applications on rooted/jailbroken or google unauthorized devices.

How to make changes to the data entered during the initial configuration/setup?

A:
At this point any change of data would require the reset up of the application. Alternatively, IT administrators can email the support contact or write to info@nischint.co to update the information on our backend. Nischint will be giving an easy interface for IT administrators to change configurations very soon.

Q:
How to change any grade/section settings? For example, adding extra sections to a grade, adding/ deleting grades/ sections,

A:
a. Go to ‘Settings’ >> Click on ‘Grade/YL Settings’.
b. To add grade/sections to the school settings, simply enter the required details of the grades and sections. Click ‘Save’ button.
c. To delete a particular grade, simply click the right most ‘bin’ icon (Delete option) corresponding to the grade that you want to delete, and then click ‘Yes’ in the following dialog box.
d. To delete sections from a particular grade, click on the ‘View/Delete’ option corresponding to the grade. In the following dialog box, click the delete option corresponding to the sections that you want to delete. Click ‘Yes’.

Q:
What are the extra features that are available on the IT Admin side of control?

A:
The IT Admin may choose the following additional optional features for devices owned by students a. Parent access to child device : To allow the parents to access and manage their child devices during non-school hours, you can toggle this On/Off switch button . It will allow the parents to block apps on child devices, set website rules and many other helpful security features.
b. Geo Safe feature to Parent: You can use this feature to allow the parent to access the real time location information of their child. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.
c. Shout Out feature to Parent : In case of emergencies the child can raise a ""Shout Out"" using the Nischint For Education app on their devices. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.

Q:
How to unlock a student device during school hours if required?

A:
In order to unlock the student device during school hours, the IT admin/Parent can do so just by entering their Parent passcode into the settings tab of the Nischint for Education app on the device. This gets the device unlocked.

What are the steps to do in case a student changes his/her device?

A:
a. Go to Student Management tab and identify the corresponding license code of the particular student.
b. Click on the ‘Bin’ icon under the delete column, in order to revoke the license.
c. On the student device, go to settings and enter your IT Admin passcode to unlock the settings.
d. Go to ‘Security’ >> Click on ‘Device Administrators’.
e. Untick the button corresponding to the Nischint for Education App. (this will allow the initial uninstallation process)
f. Open the Nischint for Education tab on the current student device
g. Go to Settings >> Enter your IT Admin Passcode.
h. Click on ‘Uninstall Nischint’ option on the following screen >> Click OK.
i. To reinstall the application please refer to the same steps mentioned in Q3.

Q:
How does the application work if the student is out of premises during school hours?

A:
Outside school premises the device is managed by parents. Policies enforced by parents are thereby applicable. If no policies are put in place the device would work as a normal device.

If a student is absent from school, can the device be used as a home device i.e. by not enforcing school timings and policies

A:
Nischint for Education is equipped with the ‘Parent Override Absent Feature’ wherein the parent can enter their parent passcode in the settings of the Nischint for Education App, and the device gets unlocked to be used freely. Please note that in such a scenario a notification is sent to the IT administrator informing of the parent override.

How do the students receive a notification, if an app, file request or notification is sent after school working hours?

A:
The student device will receive a notification for the pushed app or file irrespective of the school working hours, provided there is an active internet connection (WIFI/Cellular). The notifications are usually shown at the top of the screen

We provide an easy way to download the entire school database on our web portal using the download CSV option (Available top right hand side). Once downloaded as CSV it can be converted to .xls/.xlsx and PDF formats

How do I Install applications as per grade and section?

A:
• Go to App Management>> Click on INSTALL APPS>>
• In the window select the “Grades” &/or “Sections”
• Choose “android” for Android devices or “iOS” for Apple devices.
• In the Search Bar ,enter the name of the application that you wish to install on the student device .
• A list of top 10 applications matching your entered name in the search box will appear. Select the name of the application that matches your choice.
• Click on “Install” option.

How do I see the applications I have sent for installation?

A:
The installation history tab under the install apps shows all the details
• Go to “App Management” in the left navigation menu>> Click on “install apps” sub menu option.
• Click on “Installation History” tab on the screen. This will now show you the Installation History list along with various sorting options.

Can I see how many students have installed applications?

A:
Yes. The column marked as installed under “Installation History” tab shows the number of students devices which have installed the application.

Can I resend the applications installation request?

A:
Yes, The Action column shown under “Installation History” tab gives you the options to resend application to student devices which haven’t installed.

Why are some of the resend buttons disabled for some of the apps pushed for installations?

A:
When an app is selected for installation, it is sent to all students for the selected grade/section. If all these students install the app, the “Resend” button is disabled, otherwise enabled.

I cannot find the application that I want to install

A:
Typically, Nischint for Education is integrated with Google Play store. Hence, if your desired application is available on Google Play Store then it should be listed within our search. However, in the unlikely event that its not listed we request you to follow the below steps
i. Go to https://play.google.com
ii. Serach your desired application
iii. Copy the App Id mentioned in the URL (See highlighted text in blue)
iv. Paste the App Id in the serach bar of app installtion.

Q:
How to whitelist pre installed applications like camera, gallery, calculator?

A:
i. Log onto your School Nischint Web portal and enter your login credentials.
ii. Go to ‘App Management’ tab >>Click on ‘Whitelist apps’>> Pre-installed apps
iii. Now enter the Grade and Section for which you want to whitelist the pre-installed apps, and enter the application name in the search bar.
iv. Select the right prompt of the application and click the ADD button.
Now the preinstalled app is whitelisted for that particular grade and section.

What does the value in the ‘pending’ column of installation history tab mean?

A:
The value in the ‘Pending’ Column of Installation History Tab corresponds to the actual number of students that have yet not installed a particular app. This value is among those who have received an application request through the IT administrator

Why doesn’t a particular pre-installed application get unblocked even after adding it to whitelist?

A:
Please ensure that the pre-installed application you are trying to whitelist is working with full functionality in the first place i.e ensure that the preinstalled application is up to date if not, please update it through the official website of the particular pre-installed application.

Is there a time-out or expiry of a particular file or application pushed after which it is required to do the push process all over again?

A:
Yes, a particular file or application will expire after 7 days. After that, the admin can just click ‘RESEND’ button instead of repeating the whole process.

Why aren’t some of the pre-installed app names showing when trying to search for them through application name search bar?

A:
Please note that the Pre-installed Android specific app names need to be entered, and please ensure that it matches the particular app name on the device as well.

Why are the applications/files/folders still blocked even after whitelisting them?

A:
Please allow for the new policies to be updated on the device. Under extreme circumstances, the Nischint for Education app takes a maximum of 10 minutes to update the new policies/rules onto the device. Also you can try restarting your device to see if the issue is solved. If you still face the problem, please contact your Nischint support personnel or write to us at info@nischint.co

Post installation of an application on student device, the play store is accessible to student for browsing? Can this be blocked?

A:
The app store access is granted to student for easy installation of application. However, post installation automatic blocking for play store is not possible as of now. Rest assured, students can browse and install applications but cannot use them during school hours.

There is no limitation to the size. However, sending very heavy files (typically more than 20-25MB) may take longer than expected and may also consume a lot of memory space on the student device

i. Go to File Management tab >> Whitelist Folders
ii. Select the Grade and sections for which you want to whitelist a particular folder
iii. Enter the name of the Folder that you want to Whitelist for the selected grade and sections.
iv. Select the Delete permission option as either YES or NO as per your requirement.
v. Click the ADD button. Now the particular folder is whitelisted for the selected grade and sections.

How do I get full information about which student has downloaded a file upon a request from the IT admin portal?

A:
• Go to “File Management” in the left navigation menu >> Click on “Send Files” sub menu option.
• On the resulting screen, click on “File History” tab . This will show you a list of all the details regarding any files sent to the students.
• The “Downloaded” column shows the number of students that have downloaded a particular file.

The ‘RESEND’ button in the File History tab resends the application install request to all the students who have yet not installed the application.

How to set holidays when required?

ii. On the following screen, enter the range of dates that are to be set as holidays.
iii. Enter a name for the holiday.
iv. Select the Grades for which you want to set the holidays.
v. Click ‘Save’ button.

When changing the working hours settings in Time Management, do the changed settings apply to the entire week or only to the selected days?

A:
The new changed working hours settings will apply to only those days that are selected. For the unselected days, the settings shall be deleted or changed manually by clicking on ‘View/Delete’ option for a particular grade whose settings are to be changed.

A:
Since the Time Management School working hours involve configuring ‘days’, the working hours that are set once will apply every week automatically unless changed by the IT Admin.

A:
The WIFI Management feature in the Nischint for Education app allows the student device to only connect to a predefined set of secure whitelisted WIFI Zones during school working hours. It also enforces time management and school policies when connected.

Nischint has curated nearly 3 Mn websites to ensure cyber security and safety for all students of all ages. The websites are organized into categories few of which are by default blocked for access. To access this feature, Click "Website Filter" left navigation menu.

"a. Web Categories : This contains the list of categories in which more than 3 Mn websites have been categorized. You can search by the category name and block/unblock any specific category. by default categories like Alcohol, Drugs etc categories are blocked. b. Allowed Websites : You can configure websites to be allowed for access in this tab. • To add any website to the list of allowed websites, enter the website url into the textbox and click on add button. You will see the list of allowed website in the table below the search box. • To remove any website from the list, click the ""Delete"" icon on the same row as the website url. c. Blocked Websites : You can also block certain websites by adding them to the list of Blocked Website. • To add any website to the list of blocked websites, enter the website url into the textbox and click on add button. You will see the list of blocked website in the table below the search box. • To remove any website from the list, click the ""Delete"" icon on the same row as the website url. "

Why aren’t the websites being blocked in spite of the feature being enabled?

A:
The Website Filter blocks the websites only on the default web browser of the device. Please ensure that the browser being used is set as the default browser of the device.

What is the purpose of the Notification Centre?

A:
a. The notification Centre is a medium provided by Nischint For Education that allows the IT Admin to send notification/alerts/acknowledgements etc any type of message, that needs to be received by the student. In addition, as an extra feature, the Notification Centre allows these notifications to be sent to the parents as well, in case required.
b. The Notification history sub tab keeps a log of all the notification details sent by the IT admin, including a RESEND button to resend the notifications to the students who haven’t read them yet.

b. Geo Safe feature to Parent: You can use this feature to allow the parent to access the real time location information of their child. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.
c. Shout Out feature to Parent : In case of emergencies the child can raise a ""Shout Out"" using the Nischint For Education app on their devices. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.

ii. Move the bar to highlight Block corresponding to the app you want to set a schedule for.
iii. Click on the clock sign to set a schedule
iv. Give the schedule name (e.g. Homework time/ play time).
v. Set the start and end time (please allow maximum 10 minutes for the schedule to be implemented).
vi. Select the days of the week when the schedule will be repeated. (be default all days are selected).
vii. Click Done.
Note: if you do not set a time schedule the application is permanently blocked until allowed from the parent application.

c. To delete a particular grade, simply click the right most ‘bin’ icon (Delete option) corresponding to the grade that you want to delete, and then click ‘Yes’ in the following dialog box.
d. To delete sections from a particular grade, click on the ‘View/Delete’ option corresponding to the grade. In the following dialog box, click the delete option corresponding to the sections that you want to delete. Click ‘Yes’.

iii. Copy the App Id mentioned in the URL (See highlighted text in blue)

A:"Typically, Nischint for Education is integrated with Google Play store. Hence, if your desired application is available on Google Play Store then it should be listed within our search. However, in the unlikely event that its not listed we request you to follow the below steps

ii. Serach your desired application
iii. Copy the App Id mentioned in the URL (See highlighted text in blue)
iv. Paste the App Id in the serach bar of app installtion. "

A:"i. Log onto your School Nischint Web portal and enter your login credentials.
ii. Go to ‘App Management’ tab >>Click on ‘Whitelist apps’>> Pre-installed apps
iii. Now enter the Grade and Section for which you want to whitelist the pre-installed apps, and enter the application name in the search bar.
iv. Select the right prompt of the application and click the ADD button.
Now the preinstalled app is whitelisted for that particular grade and section. "

A:The IT Admin may choose the following additional optional features for devices owned by students.
a. Parent access to child device : To allow the parents to access and manage their child devices during non-school hours, you can toggle this On/Off switch button . It will allow the parents to block apps on child devices, set website rules and many other helpful security features.
b. Geo Safe feature to Parent: You can use this feature to allow the parent to access the real time location information of their child. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.
c. Shout Out feature to Parent : In case of emergencies the child can raise a ""Shout Out"" using the Nischint For Education app on their devices. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the On/Off Switch button.

7 Q: How to unlock a student device during school hours if required?
A: In order to unlock the student device during school hours, the IT admin/Parent can do so just by entering their Parent passcode into the settings tab of the Nischint for Education app on the device. This gets the device unlocked.

A:Outside school premises the device is managed by parents. Policies enforced by parents are thereby applicable. If no policies are put in place the device would work as a normal device.

A:Nischint for Education is equipped with the ‘Parent Override Absent Feature’ wherein the parent can enter their parent passcode in the settings of the Nischint for Education App, and the device gets unlocked to be used freely. Please note that in such a scenario a notification is sent to the IT administrator informing of the parent override.

A: No, The Nischint For Education App requires WIFI/data in order to notify the parent of their child’s activity or alert reports.

19 Q: How to set up intervals or schedules for the usage of a particular app?
A:i. Go to App Management tab on your Parent Portal account.
ii. Move the bar to highlight Block corresponding to the app you want to set a schedule for.
iii. Click on the clock sign to set a schedule
iv. Give the schedule name (e.g. Homework time/ play time).
v. Set the start and end time (please allow maximum 10 minutes for the schedule to be implemented).
vi. Select the days of the week when the schedule will be repeated. (be default all days are selected).
vii. Click Done.
Note: if you do not set a time schedule the application is permanently blocked until allowed from the parent application.

20 Q: What is a Geo Safe Zone? How can I set them?

21 Q: Why can’t I select any location for the Geo Safe Zone Feature?
A: Please ensure that your child device is connected to the internet and the GPS is switched on. The Geo Safe zone feature will not function with internet and GPS. It is recommended to keep your Nischint for Education app updated at all times.

22 Q: How to uninstall the Nischint for Education app from child device?
A:i. On the student device, go to settings and enter your Parent passcode to unlock the settings.
ii. Go to ‘Security’ >> Device Administrators.
iii. Untick the button corresponding to the Nischint for Education App. (this will allow the initial uninstallation process)
iv. Open the Nischint for Education app on the current student device
v. Go to Settings >> Enter your Parent Passcode
vi. Click on ‘Uninstall Nischint’ option on the following screen >> Click OK.

26 Q: What does the Device Management feature do?
A: The Device Management feature allows the parent to block complete usage the app. A schedule/interval can also be set up in order to block a particular application for a time period. To enable this feature. Go to Device Management Tab on the Parent portal account and turn the button to display ‘Block’. This will block the entire tablet from usage, and can be unlocked only by entering the parent Passcode.
